The Origin
A bookkeeper, a founder, and $400k stuck in AR.
In late 2024, Dollar Flight Club had a problem that didn’t look like a problem until you added it up. The product was great. Sponsors loved the campaigns. Revenue was healthy. But there was always somewhere between $300k and $500k sitting in AR: outstanding invoices, batched payouts that weren’t reconciled, sponsorship deals where the AP team needed a fresh W-9 before they’d cut the check.
The bookkeeper closed the books once a month and kept everything accurate. But chasing wasn’t her job. So Jesse chased on weekends. Sundays were for QuickBooks. Months when he didn’t have Sundays free, the open AR climbed.
We tried the obvious things first. We hired a part-time AR analyst. We tried two of the established collections platforms. Both took a percentage of recovered cash. Both treated every customer the same (generic templates, generic cadence) and both burned sponsor relationships we’d spent years building.
The Build
An agent that writes like you, escalates like a partner.
So we built an agent. The brief was specific: write the invoice email the way Jesse would write it. Chase in his voice. Confirm payments before sending receipts. Never auto-respond to a customer saying “we already paid via Impact Radius” without checking the bank first. When polite reminders stop working, hand off to partner counsel, not a collections agency that takes 30%.
The first version ran in shadow mode for two weeks. We watched what Tally would have sent. We watched what it would have caught. We tuned the voice on Jesse’s past correspondence and corrected the few cases where it got the tone wrong. Then we flipped the switch.
In the first 60 days, Tally recovered $47,000 in past-due cash. In the first 90 days, $312,000. DSO dropped 11 days. Jesse closed the books two days early the following month.
What Changed
The agent didn’t just save time. It changed how the team works.
The surprise wasn’t the cash recovered (we expected that). The surprise was how the team started using Tally outside the invoicing flow. The head of sales started @-mentioning Tally in Slack before pipeline reviews: “what’s outstanding by AE?” The CFO started asking before board prep: “what closed last month vs. what billed?”
Most days, nobody on the team logged into a dashboard. The chat was the surface. The agent did the work. The dashboard sat there for the controller and for audits, exactly where it should be.
Why We’re Building This For Other Companies
Because every B2B team we know has the same problem.
We started showing Tally to other founders and finance leads. A services firm with Boeing on net-60. A B2B SaaS with eight enterprise contracts that always paid 14 days late. An advertising network with Impact Radius and PartnerStack payouts that never reconciled. Same problem. Same wasted hours. Same painful trade-off between hiring a $90k AR analyst and just letting it bleed.
So we’re shipping it. Tally is built for operators who’d rather grow the business than chase invoices. The agent runs in Slack. The cadence is in your voice. The escalation is real counsel, included. Not a percentage cut of recovered cash. Two weeks read-only before anything ships from your domain.
Our Principles
How we think about building this.
- The agent works for you, not for itself. Every action is reversible. Every draft is approveable. Your customer never knows they’re talking to software unless you tell them.
- Slack is the surface. Most teams don’t want another dashboard to remember to check. The agent lives where the team already works.
- No percentage of recovered cash. Ever. Flat monthly pricing. Counsel letters and recovery cases included up to a quarterly cap, then a flat per-letter fee at attorney cost. We make money from the subscription, not from your past-due aging.
- Read-only first. Two weeks of shadow mode before Tally writes a single email from your domain. You see exactly what it would have done. Then you flip the switch.
- Founder on every demo. Jesse runs every first call. If the fit isn’t right, he’ll tell you. If it is, he’ll show you what Tally would have done for your AR last month, before you sign anything.
